Imagine living in an egg? You think I am kidding. Well, a 24-year-old Chinese designer is doing just that. High rents in China’s capital have forced Daihai Fei to think out of the box and create an eco-friendly egg-shaped house. This university student did not have enough money to spend on living in a conventional home so he built his own mobile home incorporating green materials like bamboo, sawdust, grass seed and a solar panel.

The $960 sustainable egg-house features a bamboo frame and is covered with various insulating materials. The top of the house includes a layer of stitched bags, which are filled with sawdust and grass seeds. Daihai doesn’t forget to water the seeds regularly, allowing them to grow quickly into a grass-covered roof. Constructed over two months’ time, the unusual house includes necessary facilities like a bed, a small sink, a cute little bookshelf and a lamp powered by a small solar panel. After living in this amazing house for two months now, Daihai has become a local celebrity.
