The conceptual master planning of the Xixi Wetland International Tourism Region Design Competition is an attempt by China to promote sustainable lifestyle. A number of architects showed keen interest in the competition and sent out their proposals that were a portrayal of eco-friendliness. Amongst the many contenders, international architecture firm Woods Bagot succeeded in making an impression.

The winning entry saw the rural parkland, the Xixi Wetland as an epicenter for cultural and eco-tourism. Keepinh in mind the historic value, natural beauty and the ecological landscape, the firm has suggested the careful installation of Hospitalilty facilities, public spaces, and a wide area of wetlands.
