worsening drought in australia

Australia is facing the worst-ever drought in its history. Flash flooding a few months ago seemed to have marginalized drought, which has again sprouted its head from the dark, desiccating Australian food bowl.

First drought then floods and again drought, weather is playing mockery with Australia. Green parkland has turned light brown with parched grounds, failing crops, water-thirsty land Australia is a story of how global warming stirs a cycle of extreme weather changes.

australia badly hit by drought

Be it north, south, west or east Australia, the entire country is reeling under intense heat wave warming the atmosphere. The food bowl of the country, mainly the region drained by Murray and Darling is in spate of severe droughts. Australia being a land of inland drainage system, with almost all the rivers draining inside the country, except Murray and Darling that fall into south Pacific, relies on copious rainfall for sustenance of crops. Irrigation system is well developed, but what use will it be during such a long stretched out drought?

Water thirsty crops are on the verge of failure due to lack of adequate water. Trees are under intense stress for deficient water creating a massive fruit drop. Moreover, the farmer community in the country is stretched out, overburdened with million of dollar debts.

While the debate in Australia already begun on climate change, with few blaming global warming for the devastation, others side with humans calling it a natural cycle of warming that comes after several years. The impact of global warming on life and on earth is here to be seen with almost the entire globe capsizing under it.
