Wind turbines are great green energy producers, but the dreaded noise pollution and danger associated with them is a turn-off. Responding to this problem is a team from Kyushu University that has developed a new kind of wind turbine, which is here to change the future of wind power. Dubbed the “Wind Lens,” this ultra-efficient honeycomb-like structure has the potential to triple the amount of electricity produced by offshore turbines.

Unveiled at the Yokohama Renewable Energy International Exhibition 2010 earlier this month, the 112-meter Wind Lens can generate enough power to meet with an average household's energy requirements. This new aesthetically appealing alternative to traditional offshore turbines focuses the power of the wind to the center of the hoop, intensifying the power in a similar way a magnifying glass does with the sun's rays.
