What made Seattle reject the 20-cent grocery bag fee?

Finally, the plastic industry’s forceful crusade overturned the equations in defeating Seattle’s bag restrictions. However, it doesn’t portray the true character of the eco-conscious city of Seattle. The opponents, having lobbied hard against the green campaign, now relish the not-so-green outcome. The unwarranted incident has discouraged the use of reusable bags and it might promote waste, pollution and GHG emissions.

Seattle voters were confused on certain issues:

While most of the voters sidelined the move as an expensive one, others had doubts over the target beneficiary. Moreover, cities like New York, Philadelphia, North Carolina and California had abandoned such progress after voting for it earlier. Hence, seeing the past trend, voters were confused for their support was supposed to melt into nothingness later on.

Now, when it’s almost decided that the supporters will remain to be the underdogs, it’s going to cost a lot to environment and city revenues as well. The money raised by imposing this fee would have helped various city recycling and environmental education programs.
