The Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA) has joined hands with PRP architects to bring the first zero carbon homes to Walthamstow. Touting up to 20 homes in all, the construction work on four of them has already begun this month. When the constructor Mansell will complete these houses next year, they will feature solar roof panels for hot water and photovoltaic panels for electricity.

The low-carbon homes will employ specially designed materials and heat recovery systems to ensure minimum heat loss. Moreover, the sustainable housing scheme will allow the Borough residents to avail themselves of affordable housing. As the UK government seeks to apply the zero carbon standards to all of its new homes from 2016, the Waltham Forest will serve as a model for future constructions.
