The largest 1-megawatt solar project by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. finally sees completion. Looking towards renewable energy for power supply, the mega-corporation has installed more than 5,300 solar panels at its Apple Valley distribution center. The complete setup covering nearly 7 acres is capable of generating 1 megawatt of power. The company says the electricity produces is enough to power some 175 homes.

Wal-Mart kicked off its solar initiative back in May 2007 and expanded in April 2009 to aim for 10 to 20 solar facilities in California over 18 months. The company got success in attaining its green goals earlier this month with the completion of three other solar projects in Paramount, Baldwin Park and San Bernardino.
