After putting in a year of effort, a team of 16 engineering students from the Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi University, has designed a solar-powered car dubbed Advay II that betters an earlier version. The non-polluting, zero emission vehicle was displayed among various technologically-advanced luxury cars at the 10th Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The car, painted in yellow, is only five meters in length and its interior is made of aluminum. In making the outer structure of the car with carbon fiber-reinforced sheets and polyurethane foam mixture, the team has succeeded in reducing the weight of the car to 380 kg.

Nikhil Gupta, a third-year student of Instrumentation and Control and team leader said that the aerofoil design of the car offers minimum resistance to air. The unitary design makes it faster and more aerodynamic than the Advay I. Last year, Advay I got third position in the South-African Solar Challenge.
