If teachers don’t, who else will? To deliver lectures of sustainable living to the world, here is a professor from the American University of Dubai. Jusri E. Devries, an architect and associate professor of interior design at the university, is setting an example for other to follow. He saves the planet by conserving power, using solar energy to juice up his laptop and other devices such as digital cameras, lights and even remote controls employed at home or at work.

Devries, who believes in intelligently utilizing what nature has given us without endangering our health or the environment, has brought in a hand-powered mechanical charger to charge his mobile phone. In addition to the charger, he relies on solar power for lighting. When teaching students in the class, he often encourages them to use solar-powered batteries and lights.

Even when he constructs a 3-D architecture model to teach the play of light on surfaces, he incorporates artificial lighting to communicate the idea. This requires the use of light batteries and torches that can be expensive if using conventional cells. Therefore, he uses solar-operated lights, as they not only save energy and money, but are also chemical-free and safe.
