'Cultuurforum Spui', a proposal for the new dance and music center by Neutelings Riedijk Architects and Kirkegaard Associates in The Hague, the Netherlands has been chosen as one of the finalists.

The plan visualizes a structure that fits well within the existing urban equation without becoming a significant burden on the existing energy grid. For this very purpose the building has been designed as a low and not a towering structure so that it amalgamates well with its surroundings.

The building facade has been planned to ensure maximum daylight for the interiors thereby cutting down on energy consumption. Apart from guaranteed sunlight to lighten up the inside, the construction’s sloping façade bounces the light back to the square and on to the terrace, creating a comfortable microclimate for the surrounding area.

The building’s dome offers panoramic views of The Hague's downtown and will be home to the royal conservatory, The Hague philharmonic, Dutch dance theatre and the Stichting foundation.
