After hearing about Taiwanese hairdresser Tsai Shiou-ying’s creation, you would literally hold on to your hair. The 54-year-old from the small city of Taichung, has created pieces of art out of human hair. Well, the raw material was not difficult to obtain, given her profession as a hairdresser. She has used discarded hair from her friends and neighbors in order to create simple, elegant yet magnificent daily wear things. Some of her creations include beautiful brooches, a life size pineapple crafted out of hair, a rat sculpture and most importantly, high heeled shoes made solely out of human hair.

She always regretted not being able to carry off high heeled shoes. But, Tsai did not let this dampen her artistic spirit. Irrespective of the fact she could not use the shoes for her personal use, she nevertheless went ahead and created the shoes by putting together human hair. When interviewed, she revealed that the pair of hair shoes take about a month’s time to craft but once done, they turn out to be head turners. Not are they only something different, they add to the comfort of your feet as well. She also described her unusual piece of artwork exquisite and further commented that only human hair can be used for creating her unique creations, especially, shoes.

This is what Tsai Shiou-ying says:

“I personally love high heels very much, but I am flat-footed. I can only look at them and try them on, but if I buy them they will only be stored away until mold grows. I can’t wear them, so I want to make a pair of heels that I really like. This way, even if I can’t wear them, at least I created a work of art,” Tsai told Reuters.
