The world’s former tallest building wants to set new record as far green credentials go. Looking forward to becoming the highest green structure, Taipei 101 will spend T$60 million ($1.9 million) to boost eco-friendliness. Over the next year the building will work toward getting together as many as 100 criteria for an environmental certificate that it would hold over Dubai.

With support from the 85 office tenants Taipei 101 inhabits, the structure would bring down the water and electricity consumption. The occupants will also be encouraged to take up recycling practices. In order to reduce carbon emissions associated with transportation, all the restaurants would be asked to bring in supplies from the nearest places.

The Taiwan skyscraper already includes double-paned windows to retain cool air and saves the environment. The authorities have already met with 60 of the checklist items and hope to attain the remaining very soon. The annual utility savings is expected to reach to a total of T$20 million.
