Subterranean hotel in Surrey golf complex responds to environmental imperatives

ReardonSmith, hotel and resort architects seem to have won the hearts of London’s Green Belt authorities with their innovative subterranean hotel proposal. Despite the belt’s strict planning regulations the architects have been successful in obtaining permission to build subterranean hotel for Surrey golf complex in Surrey. The design not only endeavors to preserve the essence of Green Belt amenity but also to improve it by eradicating the already existing high buildings and hard standing parking zones that hinder the beautiful view around.

The new golf club along with the hotel standing on approximately 16,500 sq meters is designed in a way that it does not upset the Green Belt environment. Abiding by the height restrictions and view protection legislation, ReardonSmith has ingeniously designed the subterranean hotel. It will incorporate two underground levels comprising three 'rings' of guestrooms, each built around large 800 sq m garden courtyards, allowing light to permeate the fully glazed façade. All the public spaces such as high quality restaurants will be included within a single level at grade. Although, a little hard on the pocket but more than makes up for it because of the environmental benefits associated with it.
