STER UV water sterilizer promises safe drinking water

As the World Health Organization puts it, diarrheal diseases account for an estimated 4.1% of the total DALY (disability-adjusted life year) global burden of disease, or the deaths of 1.8 million people every year. Out of it, 88 percent is attributable to unsafe water supply in underdeveloped and developing countries. With an eye to bring this rate down, Olivia Blechschmidt, a US designer, comes up with STER UV water sterilization concept that uses a thin and lightweight UV light stir stick along with an induction charger for purifying water directly in a glass, pitcher or other container.

The induction charger doesn’t require battery replacement since its unique 23A battery runs for years. The conical shape of the stir tool, with a 20cm length offers visual clues and a better grip. By exposing the water molecules to sterilizing UV light, the bacterial impurities and related particles are moved out of the way. The stir stick and base are made of ABS plastic housing.
