Fighting war without oil is a nightmare. Sometimes how much oil you consume marks that fine line between the victory and defeat in a war. There is absolutely no doubt that the Pentagon is the largest consumer of oil in the US.
Only 35 other countries out of 210 consume more oil than Pentagon per day! I guess looking at the stats I can now understand why people fight wars for oil.
If you are still underestimating the oil consumption rate of Pentagon, you might want to think again. In the financial year 2006, the Pentagon consumed about 320,000 barrels of oil. Even though it went down from the 360,000 barrels per day in 2005, there was a crazy hike in oil prices.
The Department of Defense(DoD) is concerned about the way it consumes the oil. After looking at the expenditure, they have got every reason to be worried.
With the oil price tag hitting 75 cents to a dollar mark, the U.S. military budget is being restructured. For the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the military is using 16 times more fuel per soldier than used in the World War II.
I think this is an insane fact! So the next time you hear a politician whining that Iraq doesn’t have anything to do with oil, you can point these facts to that person. It would be an understatement if we say that Pentagon has an addiction to oil.
