Stamen tooth pick lamp by Daisuke Hiraiwa

What do you do with your discarded toothpicks? I know we all throw them after using once. Even I do so. However, when I saw the stamen lamp made from hundred of toothpicks I’m amazed and feeling a bit guilty.

The stamen lamp, designed by Daisuke Hiraiwa, was seen during New York design week 2009, debuted at ICFF show 2009.

Daisuke created the lamp by arranging hundred of toothpicks in a circular container. Each toothpick is sticked together with the help of glue to form a flexible disc, which gives a spiny look resembling echidna animal. The best part of this lamp is that it is flexible enough to give different shapes when hung from top.

Although the innovative design is pretty eye catching, however, the toothpicks used are not technically recycled and the glue used to bind them is not environmental friendly.
