U.S.-based Qualibou Energy will aid St. Lucia to take advantage of abundant geothermal resources around its surrounding islands for meeting its demand for energy. With an installed capacity of 120 MW, the geothermal plants will generate enough renewable energy to support the Caribbean country's 175,000 inhabitants. Consequently, the island nation won't have to rely on Mexico and Venezuela for importing petroleum.

While two-third of the energy will go toward powering St. Lucia, rest of it will be transmitted to Martinique through underwater cable. The first 12-MW phase of this development is reported to go operational within two years with rest to follow by 2015 positively.
