At the London Design Festival in September 2009, the top-level designers explored the potential of dyed solar cells. Here, the designer Seongyong Lee put the Solar Balloon project concept on public display. It’s a floating balloon having flexible dyed solar panel to harness solar energy. Later, this energy powers the LED lighting units and the surplus provides the streetlights with the much-needed energy.

On a 7-meter-tall stand, the 7 x 7 x 10 meter balloon flaunts a varied colored pattern. This installation was initially produced for the Sunny Memories project that highlighted the unification of design and engineering.
