Germany-based Fraunhofer group has devised a sensible solution to reduce the huge load on municipal power supplies as electric vehicles rely on them for succor. Their newly developed smart charging stations ask the car owner whether an immediate charge or a delayed one is needed. If the user opts to go by the second option, the charger automatically recharges the car when the local power grid is not overburdened. The system also keeps a tab on maximum daylight or wind velocity to reckon the most apposite charging time.
Conversely, if the user wants an immediate recharge or a charge during the peak hours, a higher charge is levied. The system comes with a display that indicates recharging progress, costs incurred, and the amount of electricity used.
