VKR Holding, a Danish firm dedicated to offer eco-friendly abodes in Denmark and elsewhere, furthers the Active House concept through the creation of Sentient Solar House or the Home for Life. As the forename itself indicates, the eco-conscious construction in Århus, Denmark, achieves energy self-sufficiency using ecologically benign materials, a rooftop of solar panels, and energy-scrimping designs. The one-and-a-half story house features huge windows, a slanted skylight and built-in blinds for natural ventilation and lighting.

Architect Ellen Kathrine Hansen led the design team that erected the carbon neutral home. The net-zero energy home flaunts solar panels, solar thermal collectors, tight insulation, climate-control system and a south-facing orientation to generate enough electricity and heat. The weather-resistant windows’ frames are made from polyurethane and thin glass threads.
