At the Annual Schools Trash to Fashion Awards run by Waitakere City Council, the duo from Waimauku School emerged as the surprise winners. 12-year-olds Josh Reilly and Brodie Jakich created an amazing outfit, dubbed as Bike Knight, from discarded pedals and other bike parts, which helped them to win a combined prize of $600. Volunteers Danielle Hart and Stephanie Reilly ran an exclusive school art program to train these kids for the competition.

The teenagers presented their creation through several dress rehearsals and semifinal. Local cafes offered a lending hand to annual awards as they came up with necessary trash items for kids. Fellow students utilized old clothes, milk bottles and egg cartons to fashion their masterpieces for the competition.
Jade Williams, event manager, says:
The entrants are all amazing and their garments all say something unique about them - they are the reason this event has been such a great success.
