Schoolboy makes Christmas tree from 1,000 recycled plastic water bottles

Christmas is just round the bend, and we’re all hoping to stay as green as we can be. Thinking along the same lines, Nicholas, a Lancaster Catholic High School senior, has put 1,000 recycled clear water bottles to better use in making a Christmas tree from them. He used chicken wire and lots of fishing line to hold these bottles together and to make them follow a definite pattern.

Nicholas has been working for almost a month and has got tremendous support from his parents and siblings. Now, he wishes to deck his 10-foot-tall and about 6 feet in diameter Christmas tree with energy-efficient halogen lights. Just to ensure that his tree doesn’t add to the landfills once the Christmas revelries are over, he’ll donate his creation to some organization that could preserve it to display every year.
