Having already told you about the looming cruel treatment to helpless creatures at San Fermin, I don’t want to depress you any more. So here, I have good news for the animal lovers who always stand for animal rights. Just a day after the appalling revelries at the Running of the Bulls i.e. 8th of July, the Mayor of Rotterdam will inaugurate the Savannah House in the Rotterdam Zoo in Netherlands. It’s reported to be the most sustainable building designed for animals.

Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy forms its basis:

LAM architects, while designing this unique structure, took sustainability as the top priority. The shelter, specially designed for giraffes, appears to be like African coral and the design is soothing enough to comfort the humble creature.
Menno Lam of LAM architects says:
It forced us to unite the tensions between the neutral climate requirements ambitions and that of a healthy climate for the African animals. The end result gives a special satisfaction.
Satisfactory indeed, it is! It’s quite evident from special care for internal climatic conditions; fully steered by the natural elements, mind you.
Sustainable design warrants admiration:

Architects have utilized passive solar energy in allowing natural light to peep through the transparent roof. The 4500 m3 dwelling touts sufficient solar heating and rainwater management. The collected rainwater will provide necessary succor to vegetation growing around the zoo. In addition to it, the whole building is well ventilated.

An energetic concept backed by bamboo-based construction makes this wild abode a marvel of creativity. So, the PETA activists have a reason to smile.
