The world’s leading center for the study of plant diversity, Herbarium in Kew, has grown bigger and greener with the creation of a new building named New Herbarium and Library Wing. The new wing will provide an additional archive space for sustaining dried plant specimens, botanic books and illustrations as well. Designers at Edward Cullinan Architects have juxtaposed the vault-like, climate-controlled archive with airy, day-lit research spaces to bring about the desired changes.
You could see some undulating glass and timber research areas covering the three storied, brick-clad archive. A timber and glass drum links the new wing to the existing herbarium. It will enable scientists to access their collection easily as they carry out their researches plant and fungal specimens.
