Honored with the Institution of Structural Engineers 2009 Award for Sports or Leisure Structures, the Richmond Olympic Oval is a six-acre building with some really interesting sustainable features. The designers at Cannon Design have left no stone unturned in enabling the event venue to receive the coveted silver LEED certification. Located along the banks of the Fraser River, the Oval has developed into a beacon of environmental sustainability.

The building features spacious interiors with wood floors and natural light. Cannon Design has utilized wood that was affected by the mountain pine beetle infestation. With a seating capacity for up to 8,000 spectators, the stadium is also home to the world’s largest clear span wooden structure. Moreover, rainwater harvesting is another marked attribute of the green venue.
