Kyoto Protocol came and is heading to its climax, without leaving any considerable impact on lessening the burden on earth. Then, what is it that can save the earth from the claws of global warming?
Kyoto Protocol was designed to limit greenhouse gas emissions at a time when the cloud of global warming had started to hover over the globe. The treaty set carbon emission limits by 5 percent below 1990 levels for 35 countries by 2008-12. But, as the time limit set by Kyoto nears its end, world has changed dramatically. Contrarily, the global emissions have spiraled rather than sinking and main culprits are the richer nations that have no control on their carbon emissions, barring one or two European Union countries.
But, is it the way of going ahead? What is the world gaining? What are we gaining by repeatedly poisoning the earth with toxic gases? For whom are we doing it? Industrial revolution heralded a new era of progress and development in the world, but left behind it a trail of fusion gases that are slowly taking the earth to its death and sinking it under seawater.

Now when Kyoto Protocol has failed to leave any sizeable positive impact on nations, the formulation of a new treaty is in the making that would put stricter restrictions on emissions, setting stringent cut off targets. But, richer developed world still needs time to think on setting their carbon cut off limits. They must not forget that it is basically due to their fervent and irresponsible efforts and emissions, wolrd and poor nations are suffering and with them the earth.
It is the urgent need of the day, so many treaties, so many protocols have already taken place without leaving any favorable impact. It is time now to wake up from such a spurious slumber, else time isn’t far when earth will turn a brick kiln fused with storms, floods, droughts and what not. The need is to cut and control ourselves if the earth has to survive the catastrophe.
