Revolve Technologies’ new hybrid bus delivers best fuel consumption results

A British company, Revolve technologies has created a hybrid electric bus, which gives a mileage quite above the rest. The bus has attained the best results for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions ever recorded from a double deck vehicle: 10 mpg UK (8.3 mpg US, 28 L/100km) in a recent independent test cycle at the Millbrook Proving Ground in the UK. The average mileage for a double deck vehicle, otherwise, on the roads of any European city is about 4mpg.

The bus created by Revolve technologies has been supplied to Wrightbus, a company that is already serving London with 20 hybrid Gemini 2 HEV buses (traditional double-deck buses).

The new model uses a 2.4-liter Ford Transit diesel engine. It works as generator and makes the ensemble a series hybrid.

The engine gets acclimatized to the driving conditions, hence generating more output when the bus needs more electric power. This becomes possible due to advanced electronics that predict load and speed changes in advance.

This is a very significant development in the field of hybrid buses. Let’s hope that Revolve technologies and other companies keep coming up with such ideas. It is only through such efforts that we will be able to combat global warming and other problems.
