Recycled telephone directories used as canvas for mesmerizing portraits

Being a true art enthusiast, I often look around for creations that would excite me. Just going through my usual surf I came across something unusual. An artist creates magic with old telephone books by carving and painting portraits on them. Alex Queral who has been enhancing his talent for several years now uses old telephone books for the purpose as it gives an unexpected dimension to the pictures.

Queral was struck with the idea of bringing discarded phone books into use when he was out looking for wood and came across his treasure. He creates his three dimensional picture by first selecting a photo and sketching a freehand face. Then this sketch is placed over the phone book and using a razor knife or scalpel cuts the pages to his satisfaction.

In the long list of this work are names like President Obama, Jack Nicholson, Bob Dylan and Spartan Kirk Douglas. Portraits of people who have great bones or odd features that stand out prove he is not celeb biased.
