Recycled dresses to set the exhibit at Sky Harbor ablaze

The Sky Harbor will witness exuberance and style with the Recycle Runway exhibit this week. In an effort to raise environmental consciousness, an artist named Nancy Judd played with fashion to get the message across. Her exhibition will feature dresses made from material that means no more than trash to most of us. She has very artistically transformed trash into stunning attire that you would never guess what the material behind them is.

Nancy’s clothing line includes a dress that she calls the "Couture Plastique." It is made using a fabric called Eco-spun that is woven from melted plastic bottles. The dress is a mixture of plastic packaging film with small circles cut from plastic detergent bottles. To complete the look, a stole knitted from clear plastic bags is used. Then there is the "Faux Fur Coat" made from old cassette tapes and discarded video tape.

The colorful "Fan Mail Dress" was made by folding junk mail into fans and sewn onto a skirt and dress made of scrap canvas and a mantilla for the hair. It is delightful to see how the artist has sewn old rusty nails to a 1950s style cocktail dress to create the "Rusty Nail Cocktail Dress." To complete the attire she has put a canvas remnants hat with a vintage purse and pair of shoes. She has a whole line of beautiful dresses to flaunt. If you wish to take a look, check them out here.
