Sustainability enjoys the upper hand at the Mercedes-Benz hotel tower competition as OFIS Architecture proposes to erect All Seasons Tent Tower in Yerevan, Armenia. Specially carved for the earthquake-prone region, the structure resists gravity load and related forces. The designers see energy conservation as the mantra to optimize environmental conditions.

The tower – creating a dominant view from the city – features two terraced cylindrical towers where the higher tower will house a restaurant, pool, spa and fitness center, and bar. You will also see a hotel and apartments along with a business center, shops and garage.

Photovoltaic cells, integrated into the atrium roof, generate power for the tower. During summer, greenery covers the metal mesh of the towers, while in winters snow takes it over partially. The external facades are embedded with a high performance skin to minimize solar gain during summer. A concrete slab embedded pipe system provides cooling without draft problems and provides heating during the cold winter months.
