The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, is all set to give a green transformation to his 180-year-old mansion. The Clarence House will soon have solar panels that will generate enough power for the building’s heating and lighting. The Prince has taken opinion from experts to mount the photovoltaic panels without affecting the historic appearance of the structure. One of the suggestions given was to mount the solar panels on the slopes of inward-facing roofs surrounding a courtyard of the building.

The photovoltaic installation is capable of giving an annual return on the investment of about 8%, meaning that money would start flowing in by 2021. The cost of this green installation would go up to nearly £150,000. The eco-conscious Prince is very excited about this eco-friendly conversion. Doing his bit for the environment, Prince Charles has already converted his Jaguar and Land Rover to run on bio-diesel derived from used cooking oil, while his classic Aston Martin runs on a bio-ethanol fuel made from surplus British wine.
