Sanwa Newtec, a Japanese company has designed an innovative printer that has the potential to change the paper industry. Dubbed the ‘PrePeat’, the eco-friendly printer requires no ink cartridges or toner and can erase paper to be reused over and over again. This green office printer makes use of rewritable plastic sheets made from PET plastic, which are capable of being erased and re-printed about 1000 times.

The special plastic paper that the PrePeat uses is called Peat Paper. These heat-sensitive plastic sheets are fed into the printer and a line thermal head either prints a new document in black and white or erases an existing document and reprints another, allowing you to re-use the paper number of times. As far as the cost of this eco-friendly printer is concerned, it will go on sale for 500,000 yen (US$5,500), while the paper would sum up to 300 yen per sheet in lots of 1,000 meaning a batch will cost you roughly $3,300.
