It’s great to see a couple of schools undergoing green transformation though, but the consequences that the children and teachers have to bear by getting inadequate learning environments is something that requires attention. Often during a renovation project, students are shifted into shaky mobile-home-style classrooms or gyms and music rooms that doesn’t offer the right learning environment. Bringing an ingenious solution to this problem is a newly minted architect Kris Celtnieks. He has designed a full-size pre-fabricated temporary school building that would be a perfect balance between stable, permanent space and the shanty feel of mobile classrooms.

The green structure comes loaded with features like a fabric roof, adjustable microclimate, and a self-contained waste-processing system. The building design allows for easy assembly on vacant spaces near schools under renovation, providing learning-friendly space with good acoustics, pleasant lighting, and a solid framework. After the renovation is complete, the structure can be disassembled easily and reused whenever required. This innovative and creative design helped Celtnieks bag the first spot in GRAPHISOFT’s Architects Jury 2010 competition.
