Making furniture from old cardboard tubes means diverting them from landfills, hence preserving the environment. Recycling also saves resources, labor and cost. Antonela and Sala met while studying at the Buenos Aires Architecture and Design University and found they had common interests. They came up with a brilliant idea of utilizing free raw materials like cardboard to design innovative products. They kicked off their idea of creating furniture with cardboard with an exhibition stand and there has been no looking back since then. The duo started up their own company and now sells beautiful products under the brand name Pomada.

How is the cardboard furniture made?

The two friends fashion their unique cardboard furniture by using cardboard tubes. They first collect old 30 cm-wide cardboard tubes and then cut them according to the size and shape of the furniture piece. After this, the cardboard pieces are fixed into frames that are made from plywood or recycled OSB. They use glue to join pieces together. Finally, the finished product is covered with a clear hydro lacquer that gives it shine and life. Apart from being light, cardboard is foldable, recyclable, biodegradable and of course cheaper. So, what are you waiting for, give your home a new makeover with these stunning furniture pieces.
