Plants emit SOS signals to summon for help

Plants have their own way of protecting themselves and their families from a possible attack. When they find themselves under attack from feeding insects, few plants release volatile chemicals to attract the enemies of the insects.

Few plants send out SOS signals when they are under attack. With this, plants not only save themselves but also their neighbors, who also in their defence send out distress signals to call in these bodyguards.

Yutaka Kobayashi and Norio Yamamura of Kyoto University, Japan conducted the study.

The scientists harped on family values amongst the plants crying for help to save their family. Neighboring undamaged plants emit the secondary signal probably to help the damaged plants.

Earlier on scientists had found that plants who are under attack, emit SOS signals, but the recent study has made clear the ambiguity that revolved as to why do the so-called secondary signalers do it. Now, it is clear that the secondary signalers also cry for help to save their family.
