It is but nonsensical to keep reinventing the wheel each time when we have redundant stuff at our disposal that could be transformed into something more practical. Creatives at Austin + Mergold believe it to be the mantra behind their artworks. Recently, they have come up with a planter-bench created from EPS foam – an urban construction waste. Threaded rods, low-grade plywood and PVC construction fence are also used to create the PLANCH.

PLANCH makes use of a novel process called phyto-remediation that involves converting toxic industrial and construction waste into eco-beneficial products. With a high insulation value, compression resistance, tactility, and weather resistance, the polystyrene foam becomes a perfect material to make these benches that have dedicated slots for growing plants. Sure to deck any home exterior with a distinctive green hue, the novel furniture deserves a place in your garden.
