Pelamis, a Scotland-based energy developer, plans a $100 million energy project with European energy giant Vattenfall. The two companies have recently signed an agreement for Scotland’s largest wave power scheme. The new project off Scotland’s Shetland Islands is named Aegir, after a Norse mythological sea god. This eco-friendly project will help in reducing carbon emissions and saving the environment. We will get to see the first phase of the project in 2014.

Aegir is expected to include 26 of Pelamis’ P2 180m long-wave power machines to produce power. The power machines are capable of generating up to 200MW of power, which is enough to provide power for about 13,000 households per year. Scotland hopes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2020 with the help of this project and a few more like it. The Scottish government in partnership with some companies has lately launched the largest working hydro-electric wave energy device called the Oyster.
