Sparkling clothes do not mean expensive electric washing machines anymore, all you require is recycled components and you are good to go. Here is a new pedal powered washing machine that has been designed with an aim to save on time, labor and most importantly fossil fuels. This innovative machine doesn’t require a generator and is made manly using recycled components.

The manually powered washing machine - washer x bike is made by removing the inner washing machine, while keeping the tank, its door opening and drain hose. It is then connected to a bike, which is pedaled to keep the tank rotating at the speed of about 50 rpm. The hot water used for the cleaning could come from a water heater, a solar cooker, a cooker timer etc. You too could make your own green washing machine by following the instructions given in the open resource project called 'les outils des l'autonomie'.
