Pakistan will soon light up to see green. Karachi, the capital of the country, is on its way to install solar powered traffic signals. The nation has taken up a project wherein $711,000 is being invested to illuminate the city in green. Under this trial project, traffic signals that will use solar energy to run will be installed at 120 intersections.

The traffic signals will have solar panels mounted some 7.3 meters high, which will produce enough energy to keep the signals working for a good 24 hours. With this six-month project, an estimated 80% efficiency is expected. The City District Government expects each of the traffic intersections to produce 100-400 watts of solar power every month. The presently used electrical system costing nearly $7,099-$8,283 each month is kept on hold, while the new eco-friendly counterparts walk in.
