ONCOR Electric Delivery, the transmission and utility delivery firm, hits it big this time in wind-powering Texas through an 800-mile, 3,800-tower string. As part of the $4.9 billion project, the company hopes to carry wind power to the Metroplex from West Texas. The towers are made from recycled scrap at a Nucor Corp. mill in Jewett and are assembled by Chapman Construction of McKinney.

Using recycled steel isn't that new. It is pretty common. But on this massive a scale? Probably not.
Said Carol Peters, ONCOR spokeswoman
Yes, it’s really massive to erect 3,800 towers at 10 days for one tower, that too with recycled auto leftovers. Equally substantial is the intent that hopes to send clean and cheap electricity via the "renewable energy superhighway."
