If you happen to pass by Calle de Guadalupe, a holey cow is sure to grab your attention. Standing on a property near Mesilla, the cow is a symbol of sustainability. Olin Calk, Las Cruces artist and teacher, has made the sculpture using re-bar and the mud from local irrigation canals.

The Mesilla Valley is full of beautiful works by Calk and what is even more interesting is the fact that they are all made from found and natural items. The work that gave the artist recognition is probably the giant roadrunner, made entirely of non-degradable trash harvested from the city's landfill, which overlooks the city's west side.
