The most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. By designing, manufacturing, purchasing, or using materials in ways that reduce the amount or the toxicity of trash created also leads to fewer natural resources requirement. Reuse is also considered as a part of the waste prevention strategy. Reuse is a means to prevent solid waste from entering the landfill, improve our communities, and increase the material, educational and occupational wellbeing of our citizens by taking useful products discarded by those who no longer want them and providing them to those who do. Artists long have created art from found and natural objects like rocks, scrap metal, paper and books. Books made of paper are losing importance with advancement of technology. Now days, e-books are more preferred over books made of paper. If you have many old books with you that are no longer of any use, you will certainly give them away for recycling. But what if, you could create something extraordinary out of it? Check out this elegant ‘Book Lamps’ by Ragip Erdem of Erdem Designs. Erdem Designs.

Erdem Designs deals with interior decors in New York City. The Book lamp radiates the green aspects of the design where the designer, Ragip Erdem has created this artifact by making use of old book covers, pages and spines. All the lamp designs are unique and handmade. All old art books and travel books are given new life when these are used for creating table lamps or pendants. Books are made up of paper or trees indirectly. As more and more old-growth trees are cut down for making paper out of it, and we face the reality of having to wait close to 100 years or more to replace them, the need for recycling or reusing that paper gets greater and greater. Paper, of course, includes books and magazines. And while they are nearly 100% biodegradable, there is no point in sending these resources to the dump to rot in the landfill when they are so reusable and recyclable.
