The Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing just recently concluded the fourth phase of its massive solar energy field project. In the latest phase, thin-film solar panels were implanted at 22-degree to capture sunlight throughout the year. The recent development will enable the base to get 1.2 megawatts of solar energy for its electrical needs.

The base, located in western Lucas County, has a 10 acres area dedicated to produce energy from renewable sources. Taking almost two years for its completion, the field project touts more than 16,000 solar panels installed at a cost of $11.4 million. During this period, the base has already saved $140,000. The savings are sure to get higher as the Wing hopes to install more solar panels on carports and rooftops in near future.
