Norwich City celebrated its success in reducing waste over the last few years on Monday. The Norwich City Council unveiled a recycled sculpture of the iconic Norwich Castle in order to celebrate the occasion. While the original was built from the finest French stone, its imitation is made by recycling materials that would otherwise go for waste. Exhibited at the larger Caen stone original, fizzy drink cans, plastic bottles, toothpaste boxes, corrugated card, glass bottles and phone books have gone into making this innovative sculpture.

Designed by artist Stuart Murdoch to highlight the range of materials that can be recycled, the sculpture is commissioned by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP). It will be on display on the first floor landing in City Hall until the end of the day on Thursday 4 March. There are plan to donate the sculpture to a local school so they can use it as part of their lessons and learning. The recycling rate of Norwich has doubled in a period of two years and last year people living in the city reduced their waste collectively by almost 10 per cent. With this sculpture, the city aims to encourage people to involve in recycling more than before.
