Norway is up with arms to help combat global warming. The country will buy emissions quotas for offsetting the greenhouse gases generated by flights of state employees abroad.

The plan was announced in the annual New Year's address to the nation by the Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. And, this probably makes Norway the first country in the world to buy such quotas.
Some companies -- including Statoil, Norway's oil group - are practicing similar policies of paying for emissions that is caused by employees' flights.
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said,
The government has decided that when state employees travel by plane abroad, we will buy quotas for the emissions caused by the trip. We want to set an example. We hope that companies, organizations and other countries will follow.
He further said,
In many parts of the country we have had the warmest autumn and winter months for 100 years. We notice it in our daily lives -- skis are standing unused. Children are not making snowmen. Researchers say polar bears are threatened.
