It will be really massive. Spread across a 415 hectare (1,025 acre) site in Toul-Rosieres, in France, the world’s next biggest photovoltaic solar power plant will outclass the one at Olmedilla in Spain. While the latter produces 60 megawatts of renewable energy, the proposed solar plant at a former NATO air base will go on to generate 143 megawatts, and could power a town of 62,000 people easily.

French energy giant EDF is involved in building the plant and hopes to unveil it by 2012. Though it will be the world’s largest, it’s enormity will face stern challenge from other green-giants that are hoping to build even larger plants in the US and Australia. It goes for the power generating capacity as well.
