Moss Guitar: Now enjoy music the green way!

A jungle that has tall trees, with broad leaves forming a dense canopy, and gets enormous amount of rain every year, is perfect definition of a typical rainforest. It includes a diversity of species of flora and fauna. Earlier, rainforests covered 14% of the earth's land surface but now only 6% is left and as things stand today, a time will come when no trace of rain forests will remain. Over exploitation by humans is the reason behind the destruction of rainforests. Humans cut down the trees for fuel, for timber to make furniture and also for building of roads and highways. The good news is that a lot of people are now getting concerned about protecting the rainforests. Though it’s not going to be an easy task but if taken up as a mission, it won’t be that difficult either. Sebastian Ebarb, a New York-based freelance designer, in an effort to do his bit in saving the forests, has redesigned a guitar out of a species of moss taken from a rainforest. The base of his design was a man-made guitar while glue was the only additional synthetic product used in this `all natural' piece.

Moss Guitar is an all natural living guitar that gets its uniqueness from the moss covering it

The said guitar symbolizes the beauty and glory of rainforests and by being their messenger the moss spread, draws the attention of viewers forcing them to think about the issue of saving the rainforests. Sebastian created this moss guitar with the view to motivate people to help protect the above said, wonderful and pleasant gifts of nature. Kevin O’Callaghan who is a 3D designer had given Sebastian the guitar to redesign it for some charitable cause. `Protecting the rainforests' as the theme, was chosen by Sebastian while recreating this all-natural living guitar by using a kind of moss, a tiny leafy-stemmed flowerless plant, which came from and thus represented the rainforests.

Let's do our bit: We can conserve the rainforests in many ways. Since rainforests face logging as the biggest threat, we are required to be environmentally informed shoppers and purchase the products wisely. Reducing, reusing and recycling will help us cut down on the need for new products as well as fuels, which at the end are result of destruction of these forests. We should know that the dense trees of the rainforests consume most of the CO2 from the atmosphere. On clearing or burning these forests, enormous amount of greenhouse gases like methane, carbon dioxide, ozone etc. are released into the atmosphere that in turn contributes to global warming. Well, along with that we should also know that rainforests are the home to various unique animals and plants and house over two-thirds of all the living species in the world. Deforesting these places will destroy around 9000 species every year.
