A green intent to divert some redundant tires from landfills to your bathroom has led a Santa Monica, Calif.–based architecture firm Minarc to create some classy sinks out of them. The sinks, dubbed as RUBBish, are not only attractive but they also serve their purpose well. That is the reason why these absolute temptations have done so well at the R+D Awards bath division.

First, the manufacturers melt down the rubber from the tires and remove all the debris from them. Later, the metal fibers are then flattened to create a sheet that could be stretched over a wood, metal, or a material base frame. The sinks created from this fabric use less than one pound of rubber.

The sinks are available either in a 1/8-inch-thick sheet of rubber hooked to a cabinet underside or the other wherein the rubber sheet is sandwiched between two sheets of aluminum. Soon, you would see the firm launching a single sink at 36 inches wide and a double basin measuring 5 feet across.
