It was brewing for quite a while and now it's time to face the dire consequences. The indifferent attitude of masses is causing unprecedented damage to the environment and the latest in the series to be hit is the estuaries.

If the Environmental Protection Agency's reports are to be believed then one-third of the coastal waters that link America's rivers and oceans are reeling under high pollution level. Puerto Rico and the Northeast coast are the worst hit.
EPA analyzed as many as 1,239 major estuaries located in 28 counties. These estuaries found to have high level of pollution and which is threatening the marine life which these estuaries support. Manmade activities are the prime reason for this high level of pollution.
It is not only the marine life which is under threat, as a matter of fact if nothing is done to stop these estuaries from getting polluted then nearly $1.9 billion commercial fish industry would be severely hit as well.
Even the famous San Francisco Bay in Puerto Rico is facing high level of pollution. And why not? When 40 per cent of California's drains empty themselves into it. In fact this is the story of each estuary. The morbid tale doesn't end here as when these estuaries meet Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers from the Sierra Nevada Mountains then these pollutants enter the Pacific Ocean. So the massive damage which these pollutants cause can be very well imagined.
The need of the hour is to chalk a strategy so that the estuaries can be saved before it gets too late.
