The Sydney architect, LAVA has helped design Masdar, what is being called the first carbon-neutral city. While providing shelter to 40,000 residents and supporting 50,000 daily commuters, the Masdar eco-city in the Arabian Desert will be an epitome of sustainability. The city will energize itself with solar power and will utilize cool wall surfaces, underground water storage and roof gardens. Flaunting all modern amenities like a central plaza, five star hotel, long stay hotel, convention center, entertainment complex and retail facilities, the next-gen city will inspire dwellers toward a green and chic lifestyle.

The modern eco-utopia (a planned city located 17 kilometres from Abu Dhabi) will dedicate itself to public by 2016 positively. The city calls on budding construction firms, solar technology firms and fashion designers to suggest creatively sustainable designs to help it develop various eco-friendly features. The sunflower-shaped solar umbrellas will be there to envelop the entire plaza. Since LAVA wishes to employ almost each form of renewable energy, it plans to include angular building facades to counterbalance solar glare, heat-sensitive technology and food waste reuse.
